A zipcoaster is an aerial zipline rollercoaster hybrid experience, which combines the thrill of flight with the safety and accessibility of a guided rail system. How does a zipcoaster work?
Zipcoasters consist of an elevated steel track, where riders are securely suspended in specially designed harnesses below the rail. ZipZag’s zipcoasters are fully gravity-powered: each rider is securely supported by a specially designed harness below the rail, attached to our patented aluminium trolley – which is both strong and lightweight, allowing riders of all ages to experience the thrill of flight.
What’s the difference between a zipline and a zipcoaster?
- Unlike ziplines which can only go in a straight line, zipcoasters change direction with twists and turns through the circuit. This helps to maximise space, as each can be designed around the unique layout and constraints of venues.
- Sweeping curves, tight corners and sudden drops can all feature for unique thrill factors and scenic opportunities.
- Zipcoasters are built in a loop, making it faster for riders to get back up to the launch platform, or return of trolleys and harnesses.
- Lower friction of the guided trolley means the track can be designed with a smaller elevation difference between launch and landing platforms.
- The bespoke nature of each installation means the creative routing is totally bespoke to each venue, proving a unique selling point compared to ziplines that share a similar ride experience.
About the ride experience
From the moment riders are clipped onto the trolley, they’re transported into an elevated adventure unlike any other. This begins with a build of anticipation as they independently climb up to the launch platform. Riders then self-launch down the bespoke course that includes sweeping curves, thrilling drops, and breathtaking panoramic views, all the time their feet dangling freely beneath them. The world opens up from this new vantage point: the smooth acceleration and deceleration creates a flying sensation that’s exhilarating without being intimidating, making it perfect for families and thrill-seekers alike.
Zipcoaster features
Our rides are custom-designed by Chartered engineers to meet the specific requirements for each venue, while maintaining ZipZag’s exacting standards for performance and reliability. Track configurations can range from compact indoor circuits to expansive outdoor courses spanning several hundred meters. The ride system uses advanced engineering to ensure a fluid motion that mimics the sensation of flight while maintaining complete control and predictability.

Up to 60 seconds of flight time for single-stage tracks at varying speeds of up to 30 kph.
High throughput of 50-70 riders per hour with 2 members of staff, or 70-90 riders per hour with 3 staff.
Single stage track length 50-200m.

Safety features

Each ride uses industry certified harnesses designed for accessibility while ensuring security, accommodating a wide range of body types and ages.
We install specially engineered no-return gates to keep riders safe during take-off and landing.
Our patented Safe Release System (SRS) acts as a secondary check to maximise riders safety.
Operators remain securely attached to the ride platform using the Kanopeo Safe Roller system.
We provide both an operations manual and a detailed ride familiarisation session for staff to ensure that safety is imperative.
ZipZag Rides ensures full compliance of all zipcoaster installations with the relevant international standards EN, ASTM & ISO. Our zipcoaster installations have been independently certified by several global regulatory bodies including ADIPS, LEAPS, Apave, Keurmerk, TUV, DAC, ASTM (state approvals).
