ZipZag Rides is a young and highly innovative engineering company that designs, supplies and installs their bespoke market leading Zip Roller Coaster in outdoor and indoor attractions throughout the world. We have been operating for 6 years and have designed/installed over 80 rides in 14 different countries across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.
Zipline Roller Coasters are a relatively new concept. ZipZag has been and remains at the forefront of this developing technology. Our product is widely acknowledged as market-leading and sales have grown rapidly over the past three years. With growing interest in and awareness of the concept, the market opportunity that lies ahead of us is significant. This has led to an opening for a Graduate Design Engineer to join our design team as we continue to develop our business and explore exciting new innovations.
What you’ll need (qualifications and skills)
- A Engineering degree of minimum 2:1 classification or equivalent qualification
- Specialisation or experience of Structures though not essential would be advantageous
- A passion for engineering and a keen, ideally demonstrable, interest in the amusement ride industry
- Experience of 3D modelling software such as SketchUp, Autocad, Inventor or Solidwork
- Eagerness to learn about this exciting area of engineering
- A full passport and a willingness to travel overseas to work on ride installations if required
- A full driving license
- You will need to be a highly self-motivated individual and work well as part of a team.
What you’ll get
£25,000 to £30,000 per annum depending on experience.
Where you’ll work
Your place of work will be our office in Wervin on the outskirts of Chester, CH2 4BT.
What you’ll do
You will play a key role in the conception, and realisation of bespoke amusement ride solutions based on client briefs provided by the sales team.You may be asked to spend time on installs and trade show stands to maintain a thorough knowledge of the product and industry respectively.
Day-day duties will be spread across 3 key areas of the company:
Scheme design (Sales)
Conception of a client tailored bespoke ride solutions in CAD format. Challenging your problem-solving ability and versatility in order to consider and satisfy all architectural, engineering and commercial implications of the design proposal.
- 2D scheme design
- 3D design conceptualisation
- Site surveying and 3D point cloud scanning
Design execution (Project delivery)
Using 2D and 3D CAD software to realise the design in close coordination with our project delivery team to ensure deadlines are met. This will require attention to detail in design execution along with communication and organisational skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- 2D/3D detailed design of steel work and tension systems.
- 3D conflict analysis and coordination using SketchUp
- Tension system load analysis
R&D and Engineering (Ongoing development)
Being assigned to R&D project teams to contribute to the ongoing development of the product and new products. This will require critical and analytical thinking as well as further challenging your problem-solving ability.
- Using change control methodologies to report and communicate product development
- 3D prototyping using Inventor and 3D printer
- FE analysis and engineering calculations
